Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth at Destin Collegiate

DESTIN, Fla. – Pablo Gracia turned in his second consecutive round under par to pace Troy in Wednesday's final round of the Destin Collegiate at The Raven Golf Course. Gracia tied for 15th place individually, while the Trojans closed the tournament in ninth place.

Gracia opened with a bogey on his second hole but responded with four birdies to just one bogey the rest of the way. The junior finished 4-under for the week, marking the second time this season he has finished under par while finishing as Troy's top bag.

As a team, Troy shot even par on Wednesday – its first round this season not under par – and finished the event 6-under overall. Middle Tennessee held off a late surge by Austin Peay and ULM to win the team title at 20-under, with West Florida and South Alabama rounding out the top five.

The Trojans dominated the par-4 holes all week, playing them 9-under as a team – three shots better than any other school – but struggled on the par-5s, finishing 12th in the field at 2-over.

Individually, Grant Yerger played the par-3s at 2-under, good for sixth-best in the field, while Gracia's 4-under on the par-4s tied for seventh. Gracia also led the team with 12 birdies.

Lee Poppell tied for 22nd place at 2-under after a final-round 72, while Yerger tied for 26th at 1-under. Yerger overcame an early 2-over card with three birdies in his final 10 holes to shoot even on the day. Thomas Crane tied for 36th at 2-over following a five-birdie final round, while Landon Noble and individual Pierce Becker tied for 51st at 5-over. Noble recorded five birdies on Wednesday, and Becker added a pair.

The Trojans will split squads next week: some will compete in the Turtle Point Invite, an individual event in Florence, Ala., while the top five bags head to Little Rock, Ark., for the Little Rock Invitational.
