Troy Soccer Falls to Southern Miss in Sun Belt Home Opener

TROY, Ala. - The Troy soccer team fell 1-0 to Southern Miss in its Sun Belt home opener on Thursday night.
After a scoreless first half, the difference came when Southern Miss midfielder Maddie Taylor netted the game-winner in the 65th minute, freeing herself open for a shot on the right side of the box.Â
The Trojans (5-3-1, 0-1-1 SBC) couldn't capitalize on their 21 shots and ten corner kicks, which were both the second-most that Troy has tallied in a match this season. Senior Jiselle Daniels led Troy with eight shots, with four on target, while freshman Hayden Barnett added three shots with one on target
Southern Miss (2-6-1, 1-1-0 SBC) totaled 11 shots and seven shots on goal, while Golden Eagle goalkeeper Maddie Ellis saved all 12 of Troy's shots on goal to pick up the clean sheet.Â
