Women's Golf Heads to Kentucky for The Velvet Classic

TROY, Ala. – Troy women's golf returns to action Monday and Tuesday at The Velvet Classic, hosted by Murray State at the Country Club of Paducah. It's the second event of the fall for the Trojans after they opened the season last week with a 17th place finish at the Golfweek Fall Challenge.
Head coach Randy Keck will turn to his same lineup as the opener, anchored by sophomore Mathilda Ringblom, who carded the Trojans' lone under-par round of the opener and finished the week tied for 29th with a 1.67 score vs. par.
The event is a new one for Troy's rotation and features a 16-team field, including a couple of familiar teams as UAB, Alabama State and West Georgia are in the tournament on the par-72, 6,030 course.
Juniors Katelynn Altese and Manya Saini, along with freshman Constanza Quiroga, tied for Troy's number two bag in the opener at 11-over par. The two upperclassmen turned in similar results with rounds of 73, 74 and 77, while Keck's true freshman carded a 72 in the opening round and 71 in the final round around a 10-over in round two. Senior Laura Fangmeyer will look to bounce back from a rough opener in which she shot 235, which is uncharacteristic for her as she carries a career 75.12 average.
Keck will have a pair of individuals in the field as well, with freshman Juju Peterson making her collegiate debut while Victoria Stutts, Troy's scoring leader last year, making her season debut.
Teams open with a 36-hole shotgun start on Monday before closing out play on Tuesday with 18 holes.
