Women’s Golf Sits Second Following Day One of The Velvet Classic

PADUCAH, Ky. – Paced once again by a trio of Trojans tied for eighth place, the Troy women's golf team is off to a hot start at The Velvet Classic, where the Trojans are in second place following Monday's opening two rounds in the 16-team field.

Mathilda Ringblom, Constanza Quiroga and Katelynn Altese all shot 6-over par in the first 36 holes to hold down top 10 standings after the opening day at the Country Club of Paducah. The Trojans finished the day with 16 birdies as a team, the fifth-most in the field and led the field with 121 pars.

Ringblom, who led Troy in the opening tournament of the season, carded five birdies, the seventh most in the field, and played a combined 3-under on the par-5s, tied best in the field.

Quiroga played two relatively clean rounds with a trio of birdies, six bogeys and one triple to card rounds of 77 and 73, while Altese opened the day with a 4-over 76 before bouncing back to card three birdies in the afternoon en route to a 2-over 74.

Manya Saini and Laura Fangmeyer are just a shot back of their teammates in a tie for 15^th place at 7-over. Saini finished with three birdies on the day, while Fangmeyer had a birdie in each round.

Troy's two individuals also had solid days as Victoria Stutts is tied for 22^nd place at 8-over, with four birdies, and Juju Peterson is tied for 39^th place at 13-over following the first two rounds of her collegiate career, including back-to-back birdies on the first and second in the morning session.

Teams finish the tournament tomorrow with 18 more holes.
