POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Manya Saini fired the best round of her Troy career to lead the Trojans on day one of the Sun Belt Championship at the Lakewood Golf Course's Dogwood Course. Saini is tied for the individual lead following her 4-under 68 on Monday.

Saini, who had just one career under-par round entering the Sun Belt Championship, made the turn at 1-over par before blistering her back nine (Troy started on No. 10). Saini birdied five of the nine holes after the turn, including a run of three in a row from the third through the fifth. She is tied for first in the field with her six birdies on Monday.

Thanks to Saini's career round, Troy is tied for eighth place overall but just four shots back of a top-four spot – the top four teams after three rounds advance to match play to determine the Sun Belt Champion. The Trojans recorded 14 birdies on the day, the third-most in the field.

App State shot 3-under and leads ULM by three shots, while Texas State is 12 shots back in third and Coastal Carolina is 16 shots back of the Mountaineers in fourth. Troy finished the opening round 17-over par and is four shots back of Coastal Carolina.

Mathilda Ringblom carried Troy's No. 2 bag on the day – 10 shots back of Saini – and made the turn at 4-over, with a birdie on the par-5 16th. She bounced back with birdies on the third and ninth to shoot 2-over on her back nine to close the day 6-over and tied for 42nd place.

Victoria Stutts sits in a tie for 45th place, a shot back of Ringblom, at 7-over with a pair of birdies on her card, both coming after the turn on the first and seventh. Laura Fangmeyer and Constanza Quiroga are tied for 50th place at 8-over after combining for three birdies in the round.

Troy will hit the course for the second round with Georgia State and James Madison, beginning at 8:45 a.m. from the No. 1 tee box.
