Women’s Tennis Closes Out Regular Season Against Texas State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team closes out its regular season on Saturday morning, as it travels to San Marcos, Texas, to battle with Texas State at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 9:30 a.m.
Troy (11-8, 6-4 SBC) is coming off a tough loss to Georgia Southern in its home finale but looks to bounce back and gain momentum going into the conference tournament in Rome, Ga., next week. The Trojans have won four its last five Sun Belt matchups, while Texas State (15-5, 6-3 SBC) has lost its last two matches.
Despite the loss on Tuesday, Troy has played extremely strong tennis the last few weeks and much of that is due to strong singles play from a variety of players. Valeriia Avdeeva continues to lead the team with a 15-2 (7-1 SBC) record, while Maria Guirguis is 12-6 (6-3 SBC). Leena Metwally has really hit her stride, winning her last five matches to move to 9-5 (4-3 SBC).
Gabrielle Leslie has won her last three matches in the No. 1 spot. As a whole, the team is 53-38 in singles during dual season.
In doubles, the Trojans have won 51.2 percent of its matches. The duo of Avdeeva and Guirguis are 9-5 in the No. 1 spot. This season, Troy is 7-1 in matches when they win the doubles point and take a 1-0 advantage.
The Bobcats are led by Ireland Simme, who is 14-0 in singles. Emily Niers has also impressed with a 12-2 record this season. Texas State has won 68.6 percent of its singles matches.
Following the conclusion of the match, the Sun Belt Conference will announce a bracket for the women's tournament. Play will open on Thursday.
