No-hitter, Shutout Mark Doubleheader Sweep of UMass

Troy, Ala. – Alyssa Faircloth's no-hitter and Mya Holt's complete game shutout powered Troy softball in two wins over UMass to start the weekend.
The Trojans (14-9) overpowered the Minutewomen (5-12) with their dominant starts from the circle and nine sixth inning runs between the two games. In the first game of the day, Troy won 7-0 behind Holt's strong start.
Faircloth's no-hitter in game two's 5-0 win was Troy's first seven-inning no-hitter since Leanna Johnson threw one on Apr. 24, 2022. The southpaw struck out nine to keep the Sun Belt Conference lead in strikeouts.
From the plate, Kayden Dunn produced many of Troy's runs. She went 3-for-6, driving in three runs and bashing a home run in the first game.
Game 1: Troy 7, UMass 0
Troy won a 7-0 game to start the day – Mya Holt (6-2) turned in a fantastic outing from the circle to lock down the Minutewomen. Troy broke the game open in the sixth after heading into the inning with a 2-0 lead.
Holt, who spun her first career shutout and Troy's second of the season, pitched seven innings and only allowed three hits. She struck out one batter.
From the dish, Kayden Dunn led the charge with a 2-for-3 game, crushing a home run and drawing a walk. The first baseman also swiped second base, her first steal of the season. Caiden Oliva and Rebekah Johnson also had RBIs, both in Troy's five-run sixth inning.
After Holt worked around a walk in the first inning, the Trojans got things started in the first, reaching on an error.
Makaley Boswell advanced to second on a groundout and third on a flyout before Dunn drew a two-out walk. Troy struck first as Dunn drew a throw to second base on a steal and Boswell dashed home to plate the run.
In the third inning, UMass threatened with back-to-back hits, but Holt worked out of the jam by inducing a fielder's choice and a ground ball to keep Troy's lead at 1-0.
The Trojans reached on another error in the bottom of the third, and Dunn followed it by guiding a hit through the left side. However, Troy wasn't able to extend the lead.
UMass had a leadoff hit in the fifth inning, but Holt quickly bounced back three straight outs, striking out one batter.
The Trojans got the offense going in the bottom of the fifth – McKinnon Howard dropped a bunt single, and Boswell drew a walk. After both stole bases, Oliva hit an RBI groundout to score Howard and widen the lead to 2-0.
Dunn wasted no time getting the big sixth inning started, lofting a solo homer to left field. After a throwing error and a single, Rebekah Johnson smoked a single up the middle to score two more runs for Troy.
Oliva drove an RBI double into the right-center field gap to widen the lead to 7-0 and set the table for Holt to finish her first career shutout. She worked around a walk to finish the game.
Game 2: Troy 5, UMass 0

Faircloth (6-3) logged the first seven-inning no-hitter for the Trojans since Leanna Johnson no-hit UT Arlington on Apr. 24, 2022. The sophomore pitcher has been on a tear as of late, striking out nine batters in three straight starts.
Although the offense was quiet for much of the game, Taylor McKinney provided Faircloth with all the run support she would need in the fourth. McKinney went 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk and two runs scored.
Kayden Dunn went 1-for-3, slapping a two-RBI single to right field in Troy's four-run sixth inning. Hitting from the eight hole, Natalie Turner went 3-for-3 and pushed across a run.
Faircloth – who led the Sun Belt Conference in strikeouts heading into the weekend – punched out two Minutewomen in the first inning.
While the offense wasn't able to get anything going in the first two innings, Faircloth rolled through the UMass lineup. The only batter she didn't retire the first time through the order reached on an error.
The Trojans got in the hit column in the third inning when Natalie Turner legged out a bunt single and stole second base. However, they couldn't get much more.
Faircloth added two more strikeouts in the top of the fourth inning, and Troy's offense sparked in the bottom of the frame. With one out in the inning, Taylor McKinney roped a triple to right field to log Troy's first extra-base hit of the game. She scored off a wild pitch to give Troy a 1-0 lead.
The Trojans threatened in the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back singles from Natalie Turner and Reese Green but couldn't tack onto the lead.
UMass continued to flail against Faircloth in the sixth – while the Minutewomen drew a walk to put their first baserunner on since the third inning, Faircloth bounced back and struck out the side.
Following a leadoff single from Caiden Oliva, McKinney drew a walk to put runners on first and second with nobody out. A double steal put even more pressure on the Minutewomen, and Dunn delivered with a clutch two-RBI single to make it a 3-0 ballgame.
Reese Green added on with an RBI single, extending the lead to 4-0. Turner blooped a ball to the first baseman, and it scattered away while pinch-runner Emily Ferro scored.
Faircloth closed out the no-hitter with three consecutive outs in the seventh.
