Southern Miss Recap
The Trojans lost two out of three games to Southern Miss over the weekend, as the Golden Eagles scored seven combined runs in the sixth and seventh innings of the series.
Taylor McKinney had a fantastic individual series, going 5-for-10 with five RBIs, a double, a home run and two walks. She was just a triple short of hitting for the cycle in Friday's 6-4 loss.
Although the Trojans lost the series opener, they brought the winning run to the plate in the seventh inning. Troy also lost the second game, losing a 7-3 contest after Southern Miss scored four runs in the sixth inning to put it away. Caiden Oliva homered in game two, crushing a ball to give life to Troy's offense.
Despite the slow start to the series, Troy made adjustments with a new-look lineup and a shutdown outing from Alyssa Faircloth. In the 6-2 win, Faircloth took a shutout into the seventh inning as Kayden Dunn homered and Mia Tidmore hit an RBI triple.
A Second Look at Auburn
Since their last meeting with Troy, the Tigers have gone 1-10 against tough competition. Auburn was swept by No. 21 Mississippi State, No. 5 Texas A&M and No. 2 Texas and lost a midweek to Georgia Tech. The Tigers beat South Alabama on Mar. 19 for their only win during the stretch.
Nelia Peralta and Anna Wohlers are the offense's top performers, with both carrying an OPS above 1.000. Wohlers leads the team with eight home runs, and Peralta has 57 total bases.
SJ Geurin has continued to pitch well as Auburn's ace, holding a 1.20 WHIP and 2.41 ERA. Although she struggled against Texas' top-three offense, Geurin has turned in solid outings against other SEC teams.
