Troy Welcomes Chattanooga to Trojan Arena for Round Two of WNIT

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball season is back in full effect as it opens a second straight WNIT postseason run on Monday, March 24 at 6 p.m. in Trojan Arena against Chattanooga.
The Trojans (20-13, 13-5 SBC) look to carry their historic run from 2023-24 that included three WNIT victories en route to the Fab 4, including the first postseason victory in program history against FIU.

Second Straight WNIT Run
Troy enters the tournament after going 1-1 in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, beating No. 11 Marshall 85-54 before falling to the eventual champions, No. 2 Arkansas State, 81-66. The Trojans shot 40 percent from the field in the quarterfinal round before suffering their season-low of 29.2 percent shooting in the semifinals.
Zay Dyer, Shaulana Wagner and Leilani Guion all return from last season's historic WNIT run that saw the Trojans earn their first postseason victory in program history over FIU in the second round. In the run to the Fab 4, Guion averaged six points, going 4-of-10 from deep throughout the tournament. Wagner stayed the stat-sheet stuffer with 3.8 points, six assists and 4.5 rebounds.
Entering the postseason, the Trojans are the nation's leader in rebounds with 49.5, topping the national charts in defensive rebounds with 33.2 while sitting fifth in offensive boards (16.2). Troy also led the SBC in assists (15.3), rebound margin (plus-11.4) and scoring offense (78.5). They also had the league leader in rebounds and double-doubles via Dyer at 10.3 and 15, respectively.
Monday night marks the second time the Mocs (17-14, 9-5 SOCON) and Trojans will meet in 2024-25, first crossing paths in McKenzie Arena on Nov. 14. Troy rocketed to a 24-10 advantage through the first 10 minutes and coasted to a 76-66 victory – its first of 2024-25. Dyer erupted in the matchup with 24 points on 10-of-20 shooting while seizing 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Survived A&M
Chattanooga's run to the NCAA Tournament ended with a sprint into the SoCon Tournament Championship game, where it fell short in overtime, 64-57 to UNC Greensboro. Gianna Corbitt led the Mocs in the title fight with 18 points and eight rebounds. In round one of the WNIT, Chattanooga survived Alabama A&M, 53-49, off 27 points from Corbitt.
The Mocs led the SoCon conference in perimeter defense as they ranked 17th in the country, allowing 27 percent from behind the arc. Overall, Chattanooga is pests defensively, sitting in the top five of its league in scoring defense (second – 55.7), turnover forced (fifth – 15.7) and field goal percentage defense (third – 37.2).
