A walk from McKinney and a hit by pitch from Oliva ran the first inning lead to 7-0, and the Chanticleers finally escaped the inning with a strikeout.
Coastal Carolina battled back I the second inning, scoring two runs to cut the lead to 7-2. Holt worked around a few baserunners in the third inning to keep the score as it was.
The Trojans went right back to taking walks in the bottom of the third, with Howard and Boswell taking free passes. McKinney lined a single to right field to score Howard, and Oliva followed it up with an RBI groundout to push the lead to 9-2.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Trojans started the inning by reaching on an error and drawing their 10th walk of the game. Back-to-back singles by Natalie Turner and Rebekah Johnson scored three runs, extending the lead to 10.
While Coastal Carolina scored two runs in the fifth inning, Esmee Ames closed out the game, and the Trojans ended it after a Chanticleer baserunner left early.
Quotable: Head Coach Eric Newell
"That was a big win today. Coastal has been on fire, winning nine games in a row, so to get that one today is a big deal for us. It was a good bounce back from a really hard-fought game the day before. I feel like we were about six inches away from winning in the ninth inning with the Boswell hit to left field. Today is a new day, and we came out, showed up and passed the bat."
