Women’s Tennis Welcomes Old Dominion and James Madison

TROY, Ala. – After splitting its opening weekend of conference play, the Troy women's tennis team welcomes No. 39 Old Dominion on Saturday and James Madison on Sunday. Both matches will be played at the Lunsford Tennis Complex with Saturday's match starting at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday's match at 10 a.m.
Troy (6-5, 1-1 SBC) is coming off 4-1 win over Southern Miss last Sunday in Hattiesburg. Troy opened Sun Belt play with a 4-2 loss to No. 41 South Alabama in Mobile.
Valeriia Avdeeva has been pacing the Trojans all season long and has won her last eight singles matches to put together a team-best 9-1 record. She is 8-1 at the No. 4 singles spot while going 1-0 at No. 5. She has also impressed in doubles, going 6-2 with partner Maria Guirguis. All of their matches have come at the top spot.
Guirguis is second on Troy with six singles wins while playing at the No. 2 spot. Newcomer Veena Nazar is starting to find her rhythm, as she's won her last two matches. As a team, Troy is 30-23 this spring in singles and 64-41 including fall play.
In doubles, the duo of Leena Metwally and Hagar Ramadan-Amin are 5-3. Troy is 15-10 this season in doubles and have won the important first point in six matches. In those matches, the Trojans are 5-1.
Old Dominion (7-3) is on a five-match winning streak, that includes wins over Kansas, No. 54 Princeton, Maryland, App State and Marshall. Leading the charge is the No. 10 singles player in the country, Sofia Johnson. She is 7-1 this season and was named the SBC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday.
James Madison (4-9, 2-1 SBC) is coming off a 4-1 win over Georgis State on Friday afternoon. The Dukes have struggled in singles this season, putting together a 15-41 record during dual play. Doubles play has been similar, as JMU is 11-19.
