Troy Takes on Miami (OH) in MAC-SBC Challenge

TROY, Ala. – Following a heartbreaking road loss on Wednesday night, the Troy men's basketball team continues its four-game road trip in Oxford, Ohio, for a showdown with Miami in the second game of the MAC-SBC Challenge.
Troy (15-8, 8-4 SBC) fell 64-61 on the road to James Madison last time out but are still in a tie for second in place in the Sun Belt standings as all 14 SBC teams take a one-game hiatus from conference play. Miami (17-5, 9-1 MAC) are winners of its last three contests and are in sole possession of second place in the MAC standings, one game behind Akron.

Despite the loss on Wednesday, Troy still sits in a good position in the conference standings with six Sun Belt games left on its conference schedule, which will resume on Wednesday when the Trojans travel to Louisiana.
Against James Madison, Tayton Conerway had a game-high 18 points on 8-13 shooting, while also snagging a team-high seven rebounds and dishing out five assists. The senior guard has been Troy's best player this season and one of the best in the Sun Belt. His 16.7 points per game against Sun Belt teams is eighth in the conference. He's also shooting at an efficient rate of 54.1 percent in SBC play, which is third in the conference. On the season, Conerway is leading Troy with 13.0 points and 5.0 assists.
The Trojans struggled taking care of and sharing the basketball on Wednesday, recording 13 turnovers to its eight assists. This season, Troy is 12-1 when recording 15 or more assists and 5-2 when recording 12 or fewer turnovers.
A continued area of strength for Troy has been in the rebounding department as its +6.0 rebounding margin is first in the conference and 32nd nationally. The Trojans 14.0 offensive rebounds ranks them second in the conference and 14th among DI teams.
The impressive rebounding play has partly been a product of Troy's strong all-around play in the paint this season. The Trojans are top 60 in the country in blocks per game at 4.4. On Wednesday night, Troy won the paint scoring battle 30-18.
The MAC-SBC Challenge
Troy hosted Toledo to open its season in game one of the challenge on Nov. 4 and came away with an 84-74 win. The Sun Belt had an impressive showing winning 10 of the 12 matchups in the first installment and look to win the challenge on Saturday for the second consecutive season.
Last year, Sun Belt teams put together a combined record of 15-9.
Scouting Miami
The RedHawks enter Saturday's game coming off a 76-70 road win over Central Michigan on Tuesday. Miami's lone conference loss came two weeks ago, after it fell to Akron, 102-75.
Miami is scoring an impressive 82.0 points per game, which is second in the MAC and 25th in the country. Leading the offensive charge this season has been Peter Suder (14.7 points) and Kam Craft (14.0 points). Eian Elmer is Miami's other player scoring in double-digits at 11.5 points.
The RedHawks were one of two MAC teams to win its first game of the season, as they defeated App State by 14 on the road.
This is third all-time meeting between Troy and Miami. The two teams played in 2010 and 2011, with each team winning its home game. The Trojans won the most recent matchup 73-60 on Dec. 3, 2011, in Troy.

• Scott Cross is in his sixth season at the helm for Troy men's basketball, and his 18th as a Division I men's basketball head coach. While at Troy he has put together a 95-84 record, which includes three straight seasons of 20 or more wins. In each of those three seasons, he has also led the Trojans to 10 or more conference wins.
• Troy fell to James Madison, 64-61, in Harrisonburg on Wednesday night to open its four game road trip.
