Women’s Basketball Returns Home to Face Old Dominion

TROY, Ala. – A four-game hiatus from Trojan Arena ends on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. when a meeting between Troy women's basketball and Old Dominion tips off.
Wednesday marks the beginning of a four-game homestand for the Trojans (14-9, 8-3 SBC), who split their four-game road trip at 2-2. The meeting will see Troy look to capitalize on a two-game skid by the Monarchs (14-9, 6-5 SBC) for its first-ever victory over the opposition.

Back in the Win Column
On Saturday, Troy ended a two-game losing streak, capitalizing on a fourth-quarter offensive explosion to defeat Southern Miss 70-45 for its first-ever victory in the Reed Green Coliseum. The Trojans dominated the boards for all 40 minutes to outrebound USM 58-28. Twenty-two of the 58 rebounds came on the offensive end, which led to 22 second-chance points. Troy also limited the Golden Eagles to a season-low 27.1 percent from the field while shooting 50 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from behind the arc to outscore USM 30-10 in the fourth for the 25-point win.
Five Trojans finished in double-figures, led by Briana Peguero and Emani Jenkins with 13 points. The duo was relentless from deep, hitting six of Troy's seven triples. Ashley Baez also returned to double-figures for the 17th time with 11 points, while forwards Fortuna Ngnawo and Brianna Jackson scored 10 apiece on a combined 9-of-18 from the floor. Jackson's 10-point performance extended her 10-plus points streak to five, combining for 27-of-45 from the floor in that span.
With seven Sun Belt Conference games remaining on the schedule, Troy sits tied for third with App State. However, Troy leads the league in opponent field goal percentage (36.2), rebound margin (plus-11.6), defensive rebounds (33.4), total rebounds (50.0) and scoring offense (77.6). Troy also has the individual leader for the conference in double-doubles (11), rebounds (245), rebounds per game (10.7) and defensive rebounds per game (6.8) via Zay Dyer.

Old Dominion started conference play on fire, winning five of its first six games. Since their 78-71 win over App State, the Monarchs have lost five of the last six, including back-to-back by Georgia State, 66-62, and James Madison, 85-62. Wednesday promises to be a rebound battle between the nation's leader in rebounds, Troy (50.0), and the 11th-best rebounding team in Old Dominion (43.0) – the Monarchs also lead the SBC with 17 offensive rebounds per game.
Simone Cunningham leads the league's leading team in offensive boards with four per game, ranking 20th in the nation. Cunningham also sits eighth in overall rebounds with 7.1 per game while scoring 7.7 points and leading the team with 18 blocks. En'Dya Buford shines on both ends of the court as the team's leading scorer (12.2 points), passer (4.0 assists) and swiper (2.5) – she also leads the Sun Belt in steals with 58 total.
