Women’s Basketball Welcomes Texas State to Trojan Arena

TROY, Ala. – To open the final week of the regular season, Troy women's basketball welcomes Texas State to Trojan Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m., looking to secure a podium finish in the Sun Belt Conference.
The Trojans (18-11, 12-4 SBC) can clinch a top-3 seed in the SBC Tournament seeding for the eighth time in head coach Chanda Rigby's tenure with a sweep over the Bobcats (12-15, 6-10 SBC). Texas State has won its last two league games and is looking to continue the rise to eighth.

Despite battling foul calls and the rebound battle, the Trojans came out with the victory over in-state rival South Alabama, 86-71, to clinch a top 4 seed in the league for the 10th straight season. A win on Wednesday over Texas State would clinch a top 3 seed for the eighth season in Rigby's tenure and the sixth time in the last seven seasons, leading to a final matchup on Friday against Arkansas State for a spot in the semifinals.
Zay Dyer led the way in scoring (23) and rebounding (10) for the second straight game as she rose to 12th in the nation with her 14th double-double. Her 10 rebounds kept her atop the league rankings in rebounding with 10.6. The junior forward has claimed a double-double in 14 of her 28 starts while scoring double-digits in 21 and grabbing 10-plus rebounds in 16. An Atlanta native, Dyer's led Troy for scoring in 12 games and 17 times for rebounds.
The Trojans return home where they stand at 9-1, 7-0 SBC for the best league start in program history and best overall home record since 2021-22 at 12-2. Fortuna Nganwo has been a secret weapon off the bench in Trojan Arena. In eight games, the Cameroon native is fourth for Troy in scoring with 9.8 points while having the second-most rebounds at 7.1 – she leads all Trojans for players who play under 20 minutes.
Wednesday pits Troy against Texas State for the second time of 2024-25, looking for its third straight sweep over the Bobcats and 10th straight victory. The last these programs faced, Troy had its largest victory in program history for a league road game at 47, 105-58, on Jan. 23. Emani Jenkins led the way with six triples to help the Trojans finish with 14, which was the most since it hit 15 against Georgia Southern on Feb. 16, 2019.

Texas State hasn't beaten Troy since Jan. 6, 2018, overall and since Dec. 30, 2014, in Trojan Arena. The Bobcats also sit 5-13 in the overall series, including a 2-5 record in Trojan Arena. After two straight wins against Louisiana and Southern Miss, Texas State sits 10th in the league standings, one game from either rising to No. 8 over ULM and Georgia State or falling to 11th under Marshall.
Since league play started, Texas State has seen an increase in turnovers, going from 18.6 overall to 19.5 against Sun Belt opponents. It's also forced less to have the turnover margin favor the opposition by 2.7. The three-point game stands as the Bobcats' greatest weakness.
