Troy Travels to Boone to Face App State

TROY, Ala. – Fresh off a 2-0 weekend in Trojan Arena to eclipse .500, the Troy women's basketball program ventures to the Holmes Convocation Center on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. to face Appalachian State.
The Trojans (8-7, 2-1 SBC) enter Holmes Convocation Center undefeated at 8-0, where they've defeated the Mountaineers (7-6, 3-0 SBC) by an average margin of victory of plus-20.87 (708-541). App State rides a four-game win streak as one of three teams remaining 3-0 in league play.

Defended Our House
Last week, the Trojans jumped above .500 for the first time with back-to-back victories in Trojan Arena over Coastal Carolina in overtime (92-84) and the defending SBC champs Marshall (80-69). The wins improved Troy to 4-0, 2-0 SBC at home for the fifth time under head coach Chanda Rigby. Rigby also sits two wins away from her 150th SBC victory, which has only been done twice before by Brian Boyer (Arkansas State – 193) and Joe Foley (Little Rock – 231).
Zay Dyer earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week recognition for her 18 points, 16.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks over the week. She recorded back-to-back double-doubles in league play to push her season totals to eight, continuing to lead the league and rank 11th nationally. The junior forward remains the only league player to average a double-double on 13 points and a conference-leading 10.1 rebounds.
Leilani Guion's been on a scoring uptick as she unlocked a career-high to lead the Trojans in the overtime victory over the then 10-1 Chanticleers. She finished the night with 20 points on four triples and 8-of-13 shooting. She ended the week with her second straight game in double-figures, wrapping up against Marshall with 12 points on 5-of-8 from the field.
Troy reclaimed its crown atop the national stage, leading the country in rebounds at 49.9. They also lead the conference in boards on the offensive (17.1) and defensive (32.8) sides, ranking eighth and third in the nation, respectively. In the 15 games played by the Trojans, they've had 50-plus in eight and 60-plus in three. Troy's also gone a perfect 15-of-15 with games in double-figures for offensive boards.

App State has rolled through Sun Belt play in the opening two weeks with double-digit victories over Arkansas State (77-62), South Alabama (82-67) and Southern Miss (76-56) to eclipse the .500 mark. They struggled to end nonconference play before the Mountaineers' four-game win streak, losing four of their final six games.
Since SBC play started, App State has shot nearly 50 percent from the field (.497) while holding the opposition to 37.8 percent shooting. They've also forced a whopping 18.3 turnovers through the first three games. Overall, the Mountaineers lead the conference in assists and depth, with 15.8 assists and 31 bench points per game. They also shoot the best field goal percentage through 13 games at 44.4 percent.
