Troy Gears Up for Showdown with Marshall

TROY, Ala. – Following a crucial win on Thursday night at App State, the Troy men's basketball team will wrap up its first conference road trip of the season on Saturday afternoon as it takes on Marshall at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, W.Va. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.

The Trojans got solid play across the board on Thursday night in Boone, as it defeated App State 69-61 to move to 2-0 to open conference play. Senior guard Tayton Conerway was tremendous for Troy, tieing his career-high in scoring with 16 points. He was a perfect 4-4 from the field, with all attempts coming from 3-point range. He also had a career-high eight assists, which are also the most by a Trojan this season.
Conerway leads the team in assists this season and has recorded three or more in 11 of 13 games. He also leads Troy and the Sun Belt in the steals department. His 36 total steals this season is sixth in the country. He has two or more steals in 11 games this year.
Thursday was Troy's first win of the season in which it scored less than 70 points. The Trojans have been one of the better offensive teams in the Sun Belt this season, as its second in bench points per game (29.15), fastbreak points (13.15), field goal percentage (45.7, free throw percentage (72.0) and offensive rebounds per game (13.92).
Troy is also leading the conference in rebounding margin (+6.8). Troy has outrebounded its opponents in nine games this season and is 7-2 (2-0 SBC) in those games. Nationally, the Trojans are 44th in this category.
Scouting Marshall
The Thundering Herd are coming off a 77-71 win over Texas State on Thursday night. Dezayne Mingo led all scorers with 23 points, while also adding five rebounds and five assists. Mikal Dawson is leading Marshall with 13.2 points per game this season. Obinna Anochili-Killen (12.8) and Mingo (11.5) are also scoring in double figures this season.
The two teams met last season in Alabama, which saw Troy come away with an 82-66 win on Feb. 7 inside Trojan Arena. Myles Rigsby had a team-high 19 points, while Conerway added 13. Thomas Dowd recorded a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

• Scott Cross is in his sixth season at the helm for Troy men's basketball, and his 18th as a Division I men's basketball head coach.
