Men’s Tennis Sweeps AUM in Doubleheader

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team got back to its winning days on Friday, as it defeated Auburn-Montgomery in a pair of matches at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

Troy (3-3) took down AUM in impressive fashion in both matches, especially in the latter one where it won all seven points. The Trojans move to 3-0 at home this season after defeating Samford last Friday.

Match 1: Troy 4, AUM 2
For the first time this season the Trojans won the doubles point after quickly winning the matches in the No. 2 and 3 doubles spots. Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto started things off with a 6-1 win in the third spot before Yeray Andres Pastor and Henrique de Brito won 6-2 to clinch the early 1-0 lead for the Trojans.

The top doubles match was played out with AUM winning 6-3.

In singles, Sakamoto added to Troy's lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Andres Pastor got the Trojans within one point of the match victory with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on the second court. AUM didn't go down fighting, as the Warhawks picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 3 spot to make it 3-1.

Alcocer put an end to any sniff of a comeback with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court 5 to clinch the match victory for the Trojans. Court 1 was played out with AUM winning 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) to make it 4-2. The match on court 4 went on unfinished in an effort to speed up the match.

Match 2: Troy 7, AUM 0
The Trojans kept the momentum from the first match rolling into the afternoon. Like in the morning match, Alcocer and Sakamoto kicked things off with a 6-2 win in the No. 2 doubles spot. The Trojans clinched the 1-0 lead with a 6-3 win by Vicente Arbelaez and Nicolas Simkin in the No. 3 match. Andres Pastor and de Brito also win 6-4 in the No. 1 spot to sweep the doubles matches.

Sakamoto added to Troy's lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court 4. The Trojan lead was extended to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win by Simkin in the top singles spot. Troy took home the match victory with an Arbelaez 6-3, 6-2 win on court five.

Both teams agreed to play out the remaining three matches. Alcocer bounced back after a tough second set on court 6, winning 6-0, 3-6, 6-1. Andres Pastor finished his day with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court 2. Noah Martens completed the 7-0 victory with a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 3 spot.

The Trojans are back in action on Tuesday with a double-header against West Alabama with first serves at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
