Troy Opens Four-Game Road Trip in Strahan Arena

TROY, Ala. – Game one of four on the longest league road trip for the Troy women's basketball program starts on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. in the Strahan Arena against Texas State.
Winners of eight straight over the Bobcats (9-8, 3-4 SBC), the Trojans (12-7, 6-1 SBC) enter on a six-game win streak, staying undefeated in 2025. Troy also prospers in San Marcos, sitting at 6-3 all-time.

Rolling Through January
Troy continued its dominance to open the new year with a fifth and sixth straight victory last week over South Alabama, 99-60, and Louisiana, 81-73. The 6-0 start in January marks the second straight season Troy opened undefeated in a new year as the program opened 9-0 in 2023-24 – Troy went 8-0 in January last season.
Briana Peguero's excellence has propelled Troy through the win streak as she averaged a team-high 15.5 points, five rebounds and 5.5 assists last week, shooting 45.8 percent on the floor, 50 percent from deep and 100 percent at the line. Over the previous five games, Peguero's earned 5-plus assists in four while ending in double-digits for points in all five (15.6 per game). She's also been relentless on the defensive end, swiping 1.8 steals.
Another bright spot that's recently entered the starting lineup has been Leilani Guion. Her efficiency is off the charts, with a team-high (min. 20 shot attempts) 55.2 percent shooting from the field (16-of-29). The senior guard, who ranks eighth in D-I program history and ninth overall in career 3-point percentage (.354), also shot 30.8 percent from deep in the last five games for eight points.
The Trojans put the 3-point game into their arsenal through league play, jumping from 5.3 triples on 26.7 percent shooting in nonconference play to 8.7 on 35.1 percent. Peguero leads the Trojans for 3-point conversion in conference play with 2.1 per game, followed by Emani Jenkins at two and Ashley Baez at 1.9. The silent hitter from deep is Zay Dyer, who stretches the floor as a forward with a team-high 46.2 percent from deep on six makes.
Bring on the Bobcats
Texas State hasn't defeated the Trojans in the last eight meetings and sit 3-6 at home all-time. The Bobcats have won two of their previous three league games to sit tied for eighth in the SBC, defeating South Alabama, 65-54, and Old Dominion, 65-60. The free throw line is where Texas State shines as it earns the most trips to the free throw line with 21.3 attempts per game – the Bobcats also lead the league in conversions at the line with 14.9 for a 70.2 free throw percentage.
Jaylin Foster has led Texas State to a 9-8, 3-4 SBC record as the team's leader in scoring with 9.9 per game. She also ranks in the top 10 for the league in rebounds (7.0 – eighth), steals (1.9 – eighth) and free throw percentage (81.5 – third). Just 0.1 points behind her (9.8) sits Destiny Terrell, with Ja'Mia Harris rounding out the podium with 9.4 per game – Terrell leads the Bobcats with a 52.4 shooting percentage.
