TROY, Ala. – After picking up its first win of the 2025 season in dominant fashion on Friday, the Troy men's tennis team sets its sights on No. 11 Mississippi State, as it heads to Starkville, Miss., for a showdown with the Bulldogs on Sunday morning. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
Troy (1-2) dropped a pair of matches in Florida to open its season, but picked up a 6-1 win over Samford in its home opener on Friday afternoon. The Trojans dropped the doubles point, but won all six singles matches.
The Trojans have gotten strong early season play from Yeray Andres Pastor and Hiiro Sakamoto, who are each a team-best 2-0 during singles play so far this spring. Both of Pastor's matches have come in the No. 2 spot, while Sakamoto has been playing in the No. 5 position. Through three matches, Troy is 10-6 in singles play this spring.
On the doubles side, Troy hasn't quite found its groove, as its yet to win the doubles point. The pairing of Luciano Alcocer and Sakamoto are 2-1 this spring, while Henrique de Brito and Noah Martens are 1-0.
The Bulldogs entered the 2025 spring season as the fourth-ranked SEC team after putting together a strong 2024 campaign that saw them go 19-8 and make it all the way to the NCAA Team Championship Round of 16. Mississippi State fell to No. 1 Ohio State 4-1 to end its season. Former Troy player Mario Martinez Serrano transferred to Starkville following the 2024 season.
