The Trojans we're leading by nine at halftime of both games last week but couldn't come away with the win. Despite the losses, Troy led for 66:31 and trailed for just 5:13.
Tayton Conerway was phenomenal, especially on Saturday, as the senior guard recorded a career-high 32 points on 8-12 shooting – 4-7 from distance – while also dishing out seven assists. Saturday was the first time a Trojan scored 30 points in a game since Jan. 26, 2019, when Jordan Varnado had 33 points against Louisiana.
Conerway also had four rebounds and four steals to compliment his offensive showing. He is up to a conference-leading 50 steals this season and 3.13 steals per game. Both marks are good for fourth in the country. Conerway is also 91st nationally and sixth in the Sun Belt with 71 assists.
Troy's struggles last week did not come on the offensive side of the court, as the Trojans shot a combined 46.9 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from 3-point range and 74.6 percent from the line. In addition to Conerway's strong offense, Theo Seng also had a career-high 18 points on 6-7 shooting, while playing a season-high 22 minutes.
Defensively, Troy has been solid this season as it only gives up 67.1 points per game, which is the third fewest in the conference and 66th fewest among Division I teams. The Trojans continue to force turnovers at a high rate, as its opponents are giving the ball away 14.3 times per game, which is just behind South Alabama in the Sun Belt. However, in Thursday's loss it forced just 13 turnovers and eight in Saturday's game.
