LAFAYETTE, La. – Troy softball fell in the series finale to No. 17 Louisiana 4-1 after fourth inning falter from the Trojans.
Troy's (33-21, 13-11 SBC) Libby Baker tossed her 11 complete game against Louisiana (40-16, 22-2 SBC). She went 6.0 innings where she held the Ragin' Cajun offense to six hits and one walk.
Sarah Beth Brake had an afternoon at the plate. The junior catcher went 2-for-3 for the second consecutive day, picking up five hits through the series.
Troy took an early start in the first frame behind the bats of Taylor McKinney and Baker. McKinney doubled to right field, and Baker fired off her second pitch in the at-bat into the gap between center and right field, scoring McKinney and putting Troy up 1-0.
Louisiana answered back with a drawn walk and a Troy error when Laney Credeur stepped into the box. Credeur singled to center field, driving home two runs for the Ragin' Cajuns.
It became a pitching duel between Baker and Louisiana's Sam Landry through the middle innings. Baker shut down the Ragin' Cajuns, only giving up five hits through the second and third innings.
Louisiana cracked open the game in the fourth frame when they plated two runs on three hits and a Trojan error and took a 4-1 lead.
Thoughts for Eric Newell
"What a battle this weekend. Even though we came out on the losing end here in Louisiana, I think we can hang our heads high with how we played. Were we perfect, no, but we we won a game here, so I think at the end of this series I think Louisiana is saying, "Troy is playing really good softball right now." We took the lead even at the beginning of this game, put up a six spot in the first inning yesterday, and won game one. Even though we got beat on this day, I think we are moving in the right direction long term."
