LEXINGTON, Ky. – Cole Stewart, Javon Osbourne and Altwayne Bedward all competed on the first day of action at the NCAA East First Round hosted at the Kentucky Track and Field Complex.
Stewart, who competed in the javelin, came up just short in his quest for a berth in the NCAA Championships as he finished in 16th place, four spots out of an automatic qualifier. His best distance – 66.47m – came on his second throw and ended up being less than 2m short of 12th place. Stewart had a remarkable season for the Trojans, which included four first-place finishes and the second (73.75m) and third (70.08m) best throws in program history.
In the men's shot put, Osbourne finished 38th with a throw of 17.41m on his first attempt. Osbourne was 1.5m outside of the final automatic qualifier spot. Bedward faulted on each of his three attempts and did not record a distance.
Biniosa Ezukuse and Joy Edward will compete in the women's shot put tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. Osbourne will return to action on Friday in the men's discus at noon.
