Troy Falls to Louisiana in Sun Belt Conference Tournament Semifinals

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Troy battled top-seeded Louisiana to the bitter end before falling, 4-2, Friday afternoon in the Sun Belt Championship semifinals at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
Libby Baker had a lights-out performance in the circle. While punching out one, Baker held the high-powered Louisiana (42-16) to two hits through seven innings. After throwing a no-hitter in Troy's tournament opener, Baker held the Cajuns without a hit for the first 5.2 innings on Friday.
The Ragin' Cajuns scored in the game's opening frame when Miyhia Davis drew a walk. She was bunted over to second before reaching home on a Trojan throwing error, putting Louisiana up 1-0.
Troy (34-22) responded in the third inning when Natalie Turner singled to the shortstop. Louisiana retired the next two batters before Taylor McKinney drew a walk putting two runners on. Baker ripped a two-RBI single down the left-field line giving Troy a 2-1 lead.
Louisiana finally broke through against Baker in the sixth after she retired the first two batters of the frame. A two-out walk and single gave the Cajuns life before Victoria Valdez blasted a three-run home run to put ULL in front 4-2.
Troy brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the seventh inning thanks to a two-out walk by D'Aun Riggs and a single off the bat of McKinney. The Cajuns went to the bullpen and a deep flyout ended Troy's upset bid.
This season, Troy claimed two top-25 wins against Texas State and Louisiana. The Troy offense proved unstoppable all season long, recording 17 games with 10+ hits and nine games with multiple RBIs. The Trojan's biggest win margin came against Coastal Caroline with a 16-0 five-inning shutout. This was the sixth consecutive year that Troy has posted a 30+ win season.
