Troy Drops Series Opener to No. 23 Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Troy softball dropped the series opener 9-1 in five innings against No. 23 Texas State at Bobcat Softball Stadium Friday evening.
Troy's (26-14, 6-4 SBC) Taylor McKinney and Audra Thompson lead the squad in hits at one apiece. Thompson was also responsible for the squad's lone run.
In the second frame, Texas State took a 1-0 lead with a solo home run from JJ Smith, before tacking on eight more runs between innings three through five. The Bobcats scored four in the second, three in the third, and one in the fifth.
The bright spot for the Troy offense came in the top of the fifth frame from Thompson when she mashed one out of the park to put Troy on the board.
Texas State's (31-8, 8-2 SBC) Jessica Mullins pitched 4.0 innings, tossed a scoreless four innings, and struck out three Trojans. Hannah Earls led the Bobcats offensively going three-for-four on the game.
Haley Pittman (5-3) was tagged with the loss for the Trojans. She pitched 2.1 innings after she gave up four runs – two unearned- with one strikeout and one walk. Out of the bullpen, Olivia Cato and Savannah Money tossed a combined 1.2 innings.
