Women’s Tennis Falls to App State in Semifinals

ROME, Ga. – The Troy women's tennis team's historic season came to an end on Saturday afternoon as App State defeated the Trojans 4-1 in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Tournament at the Rome Tennis Complex.
App State (15-9) won the doubles point and took singles victories on courts one, three and four to secure the team win. They will now play top-seeded Old Dominion in the championship for a trip to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.
The Mountaineers started fast in doubles, as they picked up a 6-0 win in the third doubles spot. Kristina Kukaras and Emilia Namyslo answered back for the Trojans with a 6-2 win on court two to even it up. The doubles point was decided on court one, as App State was able to pull out a 7-6 (7-2) win to take the decisive first point.
When Troy had won the doubles point this season, it was 13-0.
The App State lead extended to two after the Mountaineers won in singles on court one.
Gabrielle Leslie won her 20th match of the spring as she got Troy on the board with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court six. Leslie finished her first season with the Trojans with a 20-1 singles record this spring. Including the fall, Leslie went 27-5.
After Leslie's win, it was all App State as they secured wins on courts three and four to win the match.
