MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Troy hit three home runs, got multiple hits from five players and scored three or more runs in three different frames in a 14-3 victory over Alabama State in seven innings Tuesday night at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Brooks Bryan, Will Butcher and Kole Myers hit home runs for the Trojans (19-11), who defeated Alabama State (13-13) for the 15th straight time. Ethan Kavanagh and Tremayne Cobb Jr. had three hits to lead Troy's 14-hit attack.
Troy opened the scoring with a 3-run second inning thanks to a 2-run single from Myers and Kavanagh followed with a sharp single to left to score Blake Sutton. Bryan added his eighth homer of the season in the third and Myers belted his eighth of the season in the fourth; all eight of Myers' home runs have been the solo variety, while 15 of Bryan's 23 hits this season have gone for extra-bases.
Myers drove in three runs and reached base five times after recording a pair of hits, drawing a walk and being hit by two pitches. Kyle Mock added a pair of hits to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, while Aidan Gilroy drove in a pair on two hits, including his first triple.
Jay Dill struck out three over 3.1 innings as he got the start on the mound for the Trojans before Grayson Stewart (1-2) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings to pick up the win. All three Alabama State hits were solo home runs.
After the Hornets cut Troy's lead to 5-2 in the fifth, the Trojans responded for four in the sixth and five in the seventh to end the game early.
Devin Brooks (1-1) took the loss for the Hornets after allowing three runs on two hits in two innings; he walked four and struck out two.
Quotable – Troy Head Coach Skylar Meade
"All of the phases of the game were good. Offensively, everyone will remember the home runs a little more, but Trey had a bunch of good at-bats, Kole got on base five times, I thought across the board a lot of good offensively. The pitchers attacked the zone for the most part, Dill calibrated in and gave us a solid effort and Stew was really good."
