Double Midweek Action at Alabama State, Jacksonville State Set for Baseball

TROY, Ala. – Troy baseball hits pause on the Sun Belt play to stay in-state and face Alabama State, followed by Jacksonville State in a pair of midweek nonconference games.
Game one sees the Trojans (18-11, 4-5 SBC) travel to Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex for a date with the Hornets (13-12, 5-3 SWAC) on Tuesday. Then, they travel further north to Ruby Abbott Field to face the Gamecocks (9-18, 0-6 C-USA) on Wednesday – both games set for 6 p.m.

Double Midweek Action
The Trojans are fresh off their Sun Belt series against Southern Miss, where they came out victorious in game two, 9-8, but fell in the overall series, dropping their road record to 8-7 and 4-5 in SBC play to sit seventh in the league.
Troy was run-ruled 14-4 in game one, behind 20 hits for USM. Aidan Gilroy was the redeeming quality for Troy, going 1-for-3 with a three-RBI double in the sixth. However, the Trojans rolled back for game two, 9-8, when they scored three runs in the top of the ninth via singles from Kole Myers and Ethan Kavanagh, a walk for Will Butcher, an RBI groundout by Tremayne Cobb Jr. and two-RBI triple by Brooks Bryan.
The series culminated on Saturday with a tight contest, where Troy battled back in the top of the sixth on a two-run homer for Bryan. However, a Southern Miss two-run seventh put Troy out of contention to fall in the series, 5-3.
Bryan shined through games two and three to lead the Trojans with three hits, three runs and four RBIs. Meanwhile, Myers had an impressive performance through games one and two, where he went 5-for-9, while Kyle Mock tallied six hits through the series to push his hitting streak to nine.
Alabama State enters as winners of three straight over Mississippi Valley State for a SWAC sweep. The Hornets combined to outscore the opposition 38-16 through 25 innings of play. Through 25 games, Alabama State ranks 24th in doubles per game while leading the SWAC at 2.4 and having the 31st-best batting average in the country at .311.
Wednesday's opponent, Jacksonville State, rides a long nine-game losing streak, with its last win coming on March 16, 9-6, over Southern Illinois. Since then, the Gamecocks suffered losses to Southern Illinois, Samford and Auburn and sweeps to Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky. Their bright spot comes in stolen bases with 45 through 27 games to rank 51st in the nation and second in the C-USA.
