TROY, Ala. – Troy baseball continues its busy week with a pivotal Sun Belt Conference showdown starting Friday at 6 p.m. in Riddle-Pace Field against the Panthers of Georgia State.

The Trojans (26-13, 9-6 SBC) have been busy with five games in six days leading to its series against the Panthers (19-17, 9-6 SBC), with both teams looking to break a five-way tie for second in the SBC standings alongside Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern and Southern Miss.
Midweek action opened against Samford on the road, where Ethan Kavanagh played hero in the top of the ninth with a two-RBI single inches over the shortstop's glove to score Kole Myers and Aidan Gilroy, 10-8. Kavanagh led the team with three hits on the evening as Myers, Will Butcher, Brooks Bryan and Tremayne Cobb Jr. followed with two hits.
They followed it with a home matchup with Jacksonville State, falling to the opposition for the first time in head coach Skylar Meade's tenure – sit at 6-1 overall. Myers was a bright spot for the Trojans with two runs scored, earning three walks to claim the No. 1 spot in the nation and SBC with 47.
Myers and Kavanagh led the Trojans statistically through the midweek, topping the charts with a .429 batting average on a combined 6-for-14. Myers dominated the run numbers with a team-high six, a slugging percentage of .714 and an on-base percentage of .636. No. 1 wasn't far behind in on-base percentage at .545, while Bryan sat second for slugging percentage at .667.
Troy enters the weekend series as a premiere offensive team in the nation with the second-ranked team in base-on-balls (254), fourth-ranked in sac flies (27), 28th in hits (382), 18th in scoring average (8.9), 57th in triples (10) and 35th in homers (59). Individually, Myers leads the nation in walks with 47 after earning three against Jacksonville State and ranks ninth in on-base percentage at .543. On the pitching side, Luke Lyon (5-1) continues to run the SBC, leading the league in complete games (2) and fourth in ERA (2.33) – sits at a 0.92 ERA in starts outside of Southern Miss.
Georgia State had an offensive explosion against Southern Miss last weekend, totaling 37 runs in a doubleheader on Saturday to win the series before falling in game three, 14-9. The Panthers hit the midweek against Peach State rival Kennesaw State and won 5-4 in walk-off fashion from Dylan Strickland's two-run homer in the ninth.
Matt Ruiz and Will Mize are players to watch for the Panthers, ranking in the top five for doubles at third (13) and fifth (12), respectively – Mize also sits sixth in the SBC for total bases at 90. Since SBC play began, Michael Maginnis has taken over for Georgia State through 15 games with a team-high .458 batting average – next closest is Brennan Hudson at .385.

• Bryan tied Butcher for the most home runs on the Troy roster with his 12th home run of the season in the fourth against Samford – marked his 15th career homer and fourth 2-RBI home run.
• Before its matchup with Jacksonville State, Troy hit a home run in six straight games for the first time since Feb. 16-25 with eight – totaled 13 from April 6-16.
• Manning finished 1.2 IP, allowing zero earned runs and two strikeouts to earn his sixth win over Samford – hasn't allowed an earned run in 19 of his last 24 appearances.
