OXFORD, Miss. – The Troy track and field program had five podium finishes in its second outdoor meet of the season on Friday and Saturday at the Ole Miss Classic.
The Trojans started the weekend strong on Friday, as Haruki Sakai had his best event of the season in the long jump. He hit a mark of 7.12m, a season-best for the transfer from Akron. The distance was good enough for a third-place finish, giving him his first outdoor podium as a Trojan.
In the very next event, the javelin, Cole Stewart, picked up a second-place finish after hitting a mark of 64.95m, also a season-best for the senior. Stewart has had a strong start to the outdoor season, as he also had a second-place finish in the javelin at the USF Alumni Invitational last week.
Javon Osbourne led the way for Troy on Saturday. In the shot put event, Osbourne hit a season-best mark of 17.32m for a fourth-place finish. In the men's discus, he had a second-place finish with a throw of 54.66m. Osbourne continues to impress for the Trojans. Through four events this spring, his worst finish is sixth.
Anthony Symile finished sixth in the discus.
In the 4x100 meter relay, the Trojans foursome of Tydreke Thomas, Evan Brown, Christian Buzzard and Alex Robinson finished second with a time of 41.62, just a second of the first-place finishers.
Thomas also had a good showing in the 100m dash. He finished fourth with a time of 10.57, just .06 off the podium. Brown finished in ninth place.
After winning the men's 800m last week in Mobile, Martin Bouldo finished sixth with a time of 1:54.82. Mario Tullis (12th) and Chance Armstrong (13th) finished just outside of the top-10.
In the men's 400m hurdles, Jasai Taylor put up a very impressive time of 54.39 to snag a third-place finish in the event. It's his third podium in the last two weeks after he had second-place finishes in the 4x400 meter relay and 400m hurdles at the South Alabama Invitational last weekend. Edrich Alblas came in just behind of Taylor to secure a fourth-place finish.
Freshman Keith Warner finished just outside of a podium spot in the 3000m after putting together a time of 8:56.89, good for fourth.
The Trojans' final podium placement of the meet came at the hands of Cadi Rowe, who finished third in the 3000m with a time of 10:11.22, her first podium of the outdoor season.
