Track and Fields Travels to Ole Miss Classic

TROY, Ala. – Following a strong opening weekend to its outdoor season, the Troy track and field program heads west to Oxford, Miss., for the Ole Miss Classic, which is set to get underway Friday morning and continue through Saturday.
The Trojans competed in the South Alabama Invitational and the USF Alumni Invitational last weekend, and the team saw success in both meets. Overall, Troy had five first-place finishes — all coming in Mobile — and a plethora of other podium placements and top-10 finishes.

Last Time Out
Tydreke Thomas stole the show for the Trojans last weekend as he put together an impressive fourth-place finish in the 100m at the USF Alumni Invitational with a time of 10.26. That time was good for his new personal record and ties the second-best time in program history for the event. In addition, 10.26 seconds puts Thomas 10th overall in the country in the 100m and first in the Sun Belt. His impressive performance earned him Sun Belt Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors.
On the field, Morgan Reese had a strong showing in the hammer throw at USF, throwing a personal best of 59.65m. That distance puts him 38th in the country, 16th in the East region, and first in the Sun Belt.
Picking up individual wins for Troy last weekend were Martin Bouldo (men's 800m), Kasia Cooper (women's 400m) and Lucy Turley (women's 1500m). The Trojans also had first place finishes in the men's 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay.
What to Watch For
Bouldo, Cooper and Turley will each look to pick up their second consecutive win in their headliner events this coming weekend. Thomas will also compete in the 100m dash.
On the men's side, the Trojans will be best represented in the 800m, with six athletes competing. On the women's side, Troy will have five athletes competing in the 200m dash.
In total, there will be 552 athletes competing, with 29 teams and 15 schools. The Trojans have 36 entries from 30 athletes on the men's side and 31 entries from 22 athletes on the women's side.

Director of track and field Marc Davis previewed the upcoming meet:
"This weekend will be a big test for everyone competing. There are teams from all different parts of the country, so it will be great to see different competitions. The meet is stacked from top to bottom, so I am excited to see the response from our athletes."
