TROY, Ala. – Off to a hot start to the spring season, the Troy men's tennis team returns to the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Friday to host Alcorn State in a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m., with the second match scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
Â
Troy (5-1) opened the spring, winning its first five matches before dropping a tight 4-3 decision at Samford after the match was forced indoors due to the weather. Alcorn State is 1-3 on the year, coming off a 6-1 loss at Nicholls State on Wednesday.
Â
The Trojans' success over the past two years can be traced back to their play on the doubles court. Troy is 5-0 this year and 19-1 the last two seasons when taking the point to open the match. Overall, Troy has a .611 winning percentage in dual match doubles this season, led by the tandems of Noah Martens and Benjamin Ambrosio, plus Mario Martinez Serrano and Carles Anton, who are both 4-2 this year.
Â
It's been a different story in singles, where Troy has dominated play this spring, winning 80 percent of its matches across the six courts. Martinez (6-0), Nicolas Simkin (3-0) and Yeray Andres Pastor (5-0) haven't lost since the calendar turned to 2024, while Vicente Arbelaez (3-1) and Martens (5-1) have just one blemish.
Â
Admission to all Troy tennis matches is free.
