TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team hits the road this weekend for a matchup with South Florida on Saturday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. First serve between the Trojans and Bulls is set for 1:30 p.m. (CT) in the first meeting between the two programs since 2016.
Troy (8-2) is looking to bounce back from a tough 4-3 loss its last time out at North Alabama; both of the Trojans' losses this spring have been by one point, while Troy's eight wins have come by three or more points.
Sophomore Mario Martinez Serrano is Troy's last remaining undefeated player this spring as he enters the weekend 10-0 in dual matches, all coming on court one, where he will draw a stiff test in USF's Alvin Tudorica, who is 8-1 on the year and is ranked No. 36 in the country. Martinez is fresh off a victory over Ivan Marrero Curbelo, who was ranked 64th in the country at the time.
The doubles point will be critical to the match as Troy is 8-0 this season and 22-1 the last two years when winning the doubles point. However, the Trojans are 0-2 this year and 5-8 the last two seasons when failing to capture the doubles point.
Noah Martens has won four straight matches, and Carles Anton has won three straight, leading into Troy's trip to Tampa. As a unit, the Trojans are 42-12 in dual singles this spring and 19-9 in dual doubles. USF defeated Florida Gulf Coast, 6-1, two weeks ago and Georgia Southern, 4-3. Troy has a 5-2 victory over FGCU during the season's opening weekend.
The Bulls (5-4) host No. 71 Santa Clara in the morning before their match with the Trojans.
