Women’s Tennis Drops First Match of the Season

FLORENCE, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team picked up its first loss of the spring season on Thursday, as it fell 5-2 on the road against North Alabama.
Kristina Kukaras and Maria Guirguis opened doubles with a 6-4 win in the first singles spot, but the Trojans fell in the second and third doubles spot to start the match down 1-0.
Kukaras fell in the first singles spot 6-4, 6-1 to give North Alabama a 2-0 lead. Gabrielle Leslie answered with a big 6-4, 6-4 win on court 6 to cut the deficit in half. Leslie moves to 5-0 in singles matches this season.
North Alabama got to within one point of the match victory with a 7-5, 6-4 win in the No. 5 spot. Troy wasn't going down without a fight as Valeriia Avdeeva won 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot to make it a 3-2 deficit.
The Lions clinched the win with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win in the No. 4 spot. Despite the match already being decided, the final singles spot was played with North Alabama winning 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 on court 2.

The Trojans are back in action on Friday afternoon as they stay on the road to take on Chattanooga at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center in Tennessee. UTC is 4-5 on the season and is coming off a 4-3 loss to Lipscomb on Sunday. Fans can follow the match on TroyTrojans.com.
