Women’s Basketball Heads to Baton Rouge to Battle No. 7 LSU

TROY, Ala. – Equipped with its first win of 2024-25, the Troy women's basketball program heads to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for a chance to knock off No. 7 LSU on Monday night.
Monday marks the first-ever meeting between Troy (1-3) and LSU (4-0) as the team looks to capture the first-ever win over a ranked opponent in program history (0-27) and the fourth win over an SEC opponent (3-52).

First Win of 2024-25
Chattanooga, Tenn., will be the location of the Trojans first victory of 2024-25 as they routed UT-Chattanooga, 76-66, to take a 4-3 series lead. Zay Dyer played hero for Troy as she claimed her third 20-plus point game, finishing with 24 points on 10-of-20 shooting. The forward also recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds, six coming on the offensive end.
Senior Ashley Baez continued her streak of double-digit games (4) in the scoring column as she went 10-of-10 at the charity stripe. Eight of her makes at the line came in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. Her 10 made free throws marked the first Trojan to have 10-plus makes at the line since Nia Daniel hit 12 on Feb. 1, 2024, against ULM. No. 2 also tied with Shaulana Wagner for a team-high two steals.
The key to Troy's victory came on the defensive end, as the team held the Mocs to a season-low 33.3 percent from the field for 66 points. Another critical stat line came with free throws as the Trojans combined for 18-of-20. The 90 percent mark stood as the most since Georgia on Dec. 6, 2023, on 9-of-10.
Through the first four games of 2024-25, the Trojans remain atop the Sun Belt Conference leaderboard in the rebound column. All four games have seen Troy outrebound the opposition to hold an average of 48.5. Wagner also remains the individual leader in assists for the league (26th nationally) with 19 total. Her 4.8 assists per game stands second-most in the conference.
Rebound Battle Incoming
The program that Troy battled with throughout 2023-24 for the nation's rebounding title stands at 4-0, entering Monday night as the No. 7 team in the country under head coach Kim Mulkey. LSU currently ranks fifth in the nation, nine spots ahead of Troy in 2024-25 with 51.8. The Tigers also rank in the top 5 nationally in field goal percentage (53.7), opposing field goal percentage (25.8) and rebound margin (plus-20.8).
Three LSU players were named to the Wooden Award Watchlist: Flau'Jae Johnson, Aneesah Morrow and Mikaylah Williams. The trio are already off to a hot start after a 74-60 victory over Murray State, sitting atop the LSU charts for 59.8 percent of the teams scoring (57-of-95.3). Morrow also averages a double-double as the team's rebound leader (12.3). Of the 11 Tigers to check in, eight average multiple rebounds, and five average 5-plus.
