EUGENE, Ore. – Troy men's basketball struggled to piece together consistent offense and fell to Oregon, 82-61, at Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Troy (2-2) had its worst 3-point shooting performance in almost four years, after it finished 3-25 (.120) from beyond the arc. The last time the Trojans' shot worst was Dec. 4, 2020, when they shot .100 on the road in a 34-point loss to Texas Tech. Troy finished the night with a 37.3 percent shooting clip, its lowest of the season.
On the other side of the court, Oregon (4-0) shot 51.8 percent from the field, and buried 17 of its 19 free-throw attempts. The Ducks had five players score 10 or more points and were led by Keeshawn Barthelemy's 15 points.
Both teams came out cold in the first half, as Oregon led 6-0 going into the first media timeout. Troy didn't record a point until 15:25 left in the half on a Jerrell Bellamy free throw. Bellamy had his best game as a Trojan, pulling down seven boards, scoring five points and picking up a pair of blocks.
The Ducks took a 38-23 lead into the break. It was the fewest points the Trojans have scored in a first half since they scored 22 in the first half of their game at Ole Miss last season.
The second half was a little kinder to Troy, who shot 50 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes but made just one of its nine 3-point attempts. Myles Rigbsy scored nine of his team-high 15 points in the second half. He was the only Trojan to score more than nine points.
The Ducks led for all but the first 1:46 of the game, and the Trojans were never in front.
Quotable – head coach Scott Cross
"It wasn't our best effort tonight on either side of the ball. Obviously when we hit shots it makes our defense a lot better, but we couldn't hit shots, and our intensity wasn't where it needed to be on defense. Credit to Oregon. They played good, they played tough and they were physical the whole game, which caused us to miss a bunch of shots early on and we never really regrouped or recovered from it."
