Guirguis, Metwally Advance in Main Draw at ITA Southern Regional

AUBURN, Ala. – Leena Metwally and Maris Guirguis advanced in the main draw for singles on day two of the ITA Southern Regional at the Yarbrough Tennis Center to enter the second round.
Metwally found herself down after the first set in a tight fight, 6-7 (7-9), before tying the match in set two, 6-4. The sophomore fought with McNeese State's Ana Hollweg before proving clutch in the end to win 6-4. Guirguis made short work of her fellow SBC foe Marium Hatem (ULM). She routed the opposition for a clean sweep, 6-2, 6-4.
Doubles competition saw Valeriia Avdeeva / Guirguis dominate their opening round with an 8-1 victory over ULM. The pair fought with Auburn in the second round, but the SEC opponent prevailed, 8-6, to end their run. Metwally and Hagar Ramadin-Amin automatically found themselves in round two after a bye. However, round two saw Samford prove too much to take the pair out.
Metwally opens day three in singles competition at 10:30 a.m., followed by Guirguis at 11:45 a.m. against Auburn for the main draw.
