TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Troy cross country program secured 13 personal bests and seven top-50 finishes to secure fifth (men) and sixth (women) in the FSU XC Invitational Friday morning at the Apalachee Regional Park.
"I am thrilled with how we executed our races today," head coach Brian Cunningham said. "We went out with the mindset of being aggressive and embracing discomfort. Both squads did an excellent job of being tough in the middle of their races. We are excited to sharpen up and prepare for the Sun Belt meet in three weeks."
Keith Warner returned dominantly by topping the men's side again in 24th. Warner opened the race in 36th through the first 1170m but continued to jump up into 19th by the 5000m mark. He hung around the top 20 before crossing the line at 25:40.80 for a top-25 finish.
The remainder of the men's side all peaked in the 8k to earn personal bests as Caden Blackman (26:12.80 – 32nd), Lane Watson (26:28.80 – 39th), Patterson Graham (26:29.40 – 40th) and Riley Treadaway (26:34.30 – 45th) all earned top-50 finishes. Zane McPeters showed resilience in his face, starting behind in 88th at the 2170m mark. However, the sophomore kept battling as he jumped 18 spots through the remainder of the 8k to end in 70th.
Alexiana Hinote finished 28th in the 5k, crossing the finish line with a personal best of 18:17.60 to continue her reign as the top finisher on the women's side for a fourth straight meet. Makenna Calbert also returned to the course for her 2024 debut and impressed with a 35th-place finish. Calbert stayed consistent throughout the course, staying in the 29-35 range for a personal-best 18:30.30.
Junior Aisley McMeen showed promise throughout her race as she opened in 105th in the first split. McMeen continued to battle, jumping nine spots in the second split before rising another 10 by the 4000m mark. The California native managed another five-spot jump to finish 81st with a personal best of 20:17.70.
