Cross Country Finish Sun Belt Championships
11/1/2024 2:33:00 PM | Cross Country
FOLEY, Ala. – Troy cross country's postseason run at the Sun Belt Championship finished Friday morning with the women in 10th and the men in ninth at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve.
"I think both of our youthful teams learned some valuable lessons about racing in this conference," head coach Brian Cunningham said. "They learned lessons they will take to heart as they continue their careers. I'm really happy for Aisley, who ran a personal record, and Makenna, who ran her second-fastest 5k despite some brutally humid conditions. We had several second-best season performances, which says good things about fitness levels, given the weather. We'll regroup and return even better to this meet next year."
In her second meet of the season, Makenna Calbert continued to make her presence known for the Trojans as she topped the charts with a 30th-place finish. Calbert entered the meet as one of seven Trojans to compete in Foley, Ala. last season (16 competitors) and used it to her advantage, timing at 18:42.49.
Behind Calbert were freshmen Alexiana Hinote and Reece Knowlton, who ended in 58th and 70th, respectively. Hinote, who paced the Trojans all season, came across the line at 19:22.26, with Knowlton 27 seconds behind at 19:49.58. Aisley McMeen saved her best for last as the lone Trojan to hit a personal record. She finished in 76th at 20:07.97, marking her third straight improved time.
Five of Troy's eight competitors on the men's side crossed the finish line, with Keith Warner leading the charge in 41st at 26:55.60. Twelve spots behind in 53rd was Caden Blackman at 27:51.70 to collect 51 points. Patterson Graham, Gavan Baxley and Zane McPeters battled amongst themselves, with Graham finishing on top in 60th (28:15.40). Six seconds behind at 28:21.70 was Baxley in 62nd, with McPeters rounding out the Trojans at No. 66.
Troy awaits Nov. 15, hoping to return to Tallahassee, Fla., for the NCAA South Regional Cross Country Championship.
