Men’s Tennis Drops Tight Match at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Troy men's tennis saw its five-match winning streak to open the season come to an end Sunday afternoon as Samford defeated the Trojans, 4-3, at the Samford Tennis Complex.

Doubles once again proved to be the difference, with Samford (2-3) winning on 2-of-3 doubles courts to claim the opening point, with the teams splitting the six singles matches. Troy (5-1) is now 5-7 the last two seasons when losing the doubles point, compared to 19-1 when winning the point.

In singles, Mario Martinez Serrano moved to 6-0 on the spring with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 win on court one, and Yeray Andres Pastor improved to 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court five. Noah Martens claimed Troy's other singles victory with a 6-3, 6-0 win on court three to move to 5-1 on the year.

In doubles, Martinez and Carles Anton won 7-5 on court two, but the Bulldogs opened with a 6-3 win on court three and clinched the point with a 6-4 win on court one.

Troy will look to get back on track on Friday, Feb. 10, when the Trojans play host to Alcorn State in a doubleheader at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
