Troy Sweeps AUM in Men’s Tennis Doubleheader

TROY, Ala. – Troy extended its winning streak to four to open the 2024 season by sweeping AUM in a doubleheader at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Friday. The Trojans won the opener, 6-0, and came back to defeat the Warhawks, 7-0, in the afternoon.

Match One

Troy won all five singles matches that reached a completion and took the doubles point for the third straight match to open the season; the Trojans are 17-1 over the last two seasons when winning the doubles point.

Mario Martinez Serrano clinched the match for the Trojans (3-0) with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court one, his third straight clinching match this season. Noah Martens moved to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 win on court three after playing on court four the first two matches, while Nicolas Simkin cruised to a 6-1, 6-1.

Vicente Arbelaez made his spring debut after a strong fall season where he posted a 7-1 record. He picked up where he left off, winning on court five, 6-4, 6-2, while Carles Anton picked up his 69^th career dual match victory with a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win on court two.

Match Two
It was much of the same in the afternoon session, with Troy blanking AUM by a 7-0 margin, winning on 2-of-3 doubles courts and all six singles courts. Vicente Arbelaez made quick work on court six, 6-1, 6-1, while Noah Martens and Carles Anton won their first sets without yielding a game, and Yeray Andres Pastor blanked his opponent in the second set.

Troy hosts West Alabama on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex before hitting the road for matches at Alabama State and Samford next weekend.
