Troy Women’s Golf Wraps Play at USA Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. – Paced by sophomore Laura Fangmeyer, the Troy women's golf team finished seventh at the season-opening USA Intercollegiate, which wrapped play Monday at the Magnolia Grove Golf Course.
Fangmeyer carded three birdies on the day to push her weekly total to seven as she tied for 13th place overall at 3-over for the 54-hole event. After posting the second-best scoring average by a freshman in program history last year, Fangmeyer closed out the week with a 3-over 75 in Monday's round and finished with the eighth fewest bogeys in the field with eight.
The Trojans slipped a spot from sixth to seventh on the team leaderboard after shooting a 303 on Monday. Defending Sun Belt champion, ULM won the team title, while Jacksonville State and Southern Miss finished second and third. Troy picked up victories over Georgia State and South Alabama, defeating the Jags by 55 strokes.
Katelynn Altese matched Fangmeyer's 3-over in Monday's round as she picked up birdies on the par-4 seventh and the par-5 16th to close out her week 9-over par and tied for 31st place.
Alyssa Mercado continued her climb up the leaderboard, finishing in 41st place after shooting 4-over Monday thanks to a pair of birdies, while Samantha Straight led Troy with eight birdies for the week and finished in 38th place at 11-over. Playing in her first collegiate event, Manya Saini finished 51st overall at 23-over.
Troy takes a week off before returning to the links at the Hoover Invite on Sept. 18-19 hosted by UAB at the Hoover Country Club.
