Mercado Second, Troy Fifth Following Two Rounds of Hoover Invitational

HOOVER, Ala. – Alyssa Mercado shot even-par, including a 1-under 71 in the second round, to lead the Troy women's golf team in Monday's opening action of the Hoover Invitational hosted by UAB at the Hoover Country Club. Troy sits in fifth place as a team, only 10 shots back of second place, while Mercado is second individually.
Mercado carded six birdies over her two rounds, tied for the fifth most in the field, and played the par-5 holes to a card of 2-under over the opening 36 holes of play. She sits five shots back of Samford's Gabi Nicastro for the individual lead. The Trojan junior shot 73 in the morning round with a pair of birdies before rolling in four birdies in the afternoon session.
Playing as an individual, Bruna Roqueta is tied for 12th place at 7-over through two rounds, including an eagle on her first hole of the day, the 360-yard, par-4 12th, and a field-best 26 pars. The rest of Troy's lineup is made up of four sophomores, and the group was paced by Katelynn Altese's 11-over effort on Monday.
Altese carded four birdies in the morning and followed with her fifth of the day in the second round, she is tied for 20th place. Tied for 25th place, Laura Fangmeyer rocketed up the leaderboard 24 spots between the two rounds as she rebounded from a rocky start where she shot 84 to card a 1-over 73 in the second round thanks to three birdies over a four-hole stretch towards the end of her round.
Samantha Straight is tied for 34th place after rounds of 79 and 80 with a pair of birdies on her card, while Jillian Friyia is a shot back in a tie for 37th after carding three birdies in the second round.
Troy will play Tuesday's final round along with Samford and North Alabama; teams are set for a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
