TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's soccer team won its fourth straight game on Sunday night, as they defeated Alabama State 4-1 at the Troy Soccer Complex.
This marks the first time Troy (5-1) has won four straight games since 2019.
After getting off to a slow start, Gabrielle Chartier had a beautiful free kick find the back of the net to put Troy on the board in the 35th minute. The Trojans remained scoreless for the next 36 minutes before scoring three in 11 minutes.
Dolce Villaflor scored Troy's second of the game off an assist from Jordan Stack in the 61st minute. Five minutes later, Riley Rojahn added an unassisted goal from just outside of the box. Villaflor capped off the scoring with her second of the game in the 72nd minute off assists from Rojahn and Delaney Wells.
Alabama State's (1-4-1) lone goal came in the 80th minute, as Iliana Casiano scored her second of the season off an assist from Emma Hemphill.
A Night of Firsts
Villaflor's two goals tonight also marked the first of her collegiate career. She transferred to Troy this season after spending her freshman year at Central Michigan. Rojahn, who is in her third season with the Trojans, also scored the first goal of her collegiate career.
Goalkeeper Rubie Kelley has continued her hot start in net, winning her fourth consecutive game. The freshman from Dallas, Ga., faced two shots on goal and made one save.
Playing to Their Strengths
The Trojans recorded a season-high 20 corner kicks against the Hornets, bringing the season total to 66.
The Trojans recorded 27 shots, 14 of which were on target. Villaflor led the team in shots on goal with five. Hallie Field recorded six shots, but only one on target. In her first action of the 2023 season, Jordan Stack recorded two shots and one assist.
In addition to her goal, Rojahn also tallied an assist – her second in as many games.
Coach Gore's Thoughts on the Game
Head coach Stuart Gore spoke on Troy's 4-1 win after the game and Villaflor's two-goal performance.
"I think in the second half [Troy] kind of had a fire lit under them. As a forward, you always wanna hit your mark and [Villaflor] has been itching at that. As a forward when you don't get your touches you get frustrated, so hopefully more to come from her."
Another In-State Showdown
The Trojans are back in action on Thursday at 7 p.m. as they take on Samford at the Troy Soccer Complex. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on TroyTrojans.com.
