Troy Tennis Finishes Play at Samford Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Troy women's team completed its first weekend of play during the fall season at the Samford Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
The Trojans finished 2-2 in doubles and 1-7 in singles. On the whole weekend, Troy finished 7-5 in doubles and 12-12 in singles.
In doubles, Valeriia Avdeeva and Olivia Elliott defeated Samford's Grace Keller and Annie Holt, 6-4. Maria Giurguis and Emilia Namyslo defeated Central Arkansas' Fula Nonoyama and Ting-An Chen, 6-2.
UCA's Vichi Vimuktananda and Sumomo Hamanaga defeated Kristina Kukaras and Hagar Ramadan-Amin, 7-5. Konomi Miyakawa and Harune Shigemasu bested Leena Metwall and Gabrielle Leslie, 6-3.
In singles, Troy took on Samford. Kukaras picked up the lone Trojan win, besting Alexis Lopez, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Samford won the remaining seven matches. Emily Surcey defeated Ramadan-Amin, 6-3, 6-2.
Ally Hayduk defeated Metwally, 6-2, 6-4. Noelle Mauro took down Guirguis, 6-3, 6-1.
Margaret Jaraczewski went to the brink with Avdeeva in each set, but prevailed, 7-6, 7-6. Meredith Taylor defeated Elliott, 6-4, 6-2. Samantha Maras beat Gabrielle Leslie, 6-3, 7-5. Lauren Waddles beat Emilia Namyslo, 6-2, 6-4.
