Troy Loses Heartbreaker to Southern Miss, 2-1

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss on Thursday night against Southern Miss at the Troy Soccer Complex.
Tied at 1-1 in the final minute, Southern Miss (4-4-1, 1-0-1 SBC) scored the game-winning goal with 13 seconds left as Lexy Griffin fired a shot into the top left of the net to give the Golden Eagles the lead.
Troy (5-5-0, 0-0-2 SBC) opened the scoring in the sixth minute as Jordan Stack found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Carley White picked up the assist.
Southern Miss tied the game at 1-1 in the 53rd minute off a header from Rebeka Vega. The goal came off of a corner from Hinano Nakagawa.
The Numbers
Troy registered 12 shots, with eight on goal. Goalkeeper Une Hebnes Georgsen faced six shots on goal and made four saves. It was her first action in the net since her clean sheet against Lipscomb in the season opener.
Tonight marked the second time this season the Trojans have given up a game-winning goal in the final five minutes of regulation. On Sept. 7, Samford scored in the 85th minute to sneak out a 1-0 win.
