SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Troy women's soccer team grabbed its first conference point of the season on Sunday afternoon, as the Trojans scored late in the game to force a 1-1 draw against Texas State.
Down 1-0 in the 74th minute, Dolce Villaflor took a right-footed shot just inside the box and snuck it inside the left post to bring Troy (5-5-1, 0-2-1 SBC) level. It's Villaflor's third goal of the season. Shyanne Scharbrough added the assist, for her first point of the season.
Texas State (6-3-2, 1-0-2 SBC) opened the scoring in the 20th minute off of a corner that was converted by Olivia Wright. Kennley Bradley and Mya Ulloa each picked up the assist.
After the Trojans tied it late in the second half, they threatened to take the lead in the 84th minute off of a beautiful shot by Carley White that rang off the crossbar.
The Numbers
Une Hebnes Georgsen had a strong day in goal for Troy. She faced five shots and made four saves.
The Troy offense came alive in the second half, with four shots on goal. The Trojans finished with 10 shots and five on goal. They spent 62 percent of its total attack time on the offensive side of the pitch.
The defense continued its strong play on Sunday — like it has for much of the season — and allowed only eight total shots by the Bobcats. Entering the game, Texas State was averaging 15.8 shots per game.
Thoughts from Coach
Head coach Stuart Gore gave his thoughts following the game:
"The entire roster was great the whole game. We battled against the wind in the first half and [Texas State's] goal was the only opportunity they had in the first half. In the second half, we came out with great energy and started really positively. We started to create chances. Then Dolce spins her defender and slots the ball for a well-deserved goal. We played a top team in the Sun Belt today and went toe to toe with them."
