Troy Soccer Hosts Southern Miss for Conference Home Opener

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's soccer team hosts Southern Miss for its Sun Belt Conference home opener on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. CT at the Troy Soccer Complex. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on TroyTrojans.com. Admission to all Troy Soccer games is free of charge.
Troy (5-4, 0-1 SBC) is coming off a 1-0 loss to App State in its conference opener on Monday night. The Trojans are in the midst of a three-game losing streak, but all three losses have come by one goal.
Southern Miss (3-4, 0-0-1 SBC) is coming off a 0-0 draw against South Alabama in its conference opener.
Trojan Trends
The Troy defense continues its strong play this season, allowing two goals or less in all but one match (Auburn). Trojan goalkeepers – Une Hebnes Georgsen, Rubie Kelley and Stephenie Pereff – have made 28 saves on 38 shots for a .737 save percentage.
The Trojans lead all of the Sun Belt in total corner kicks this season with 73 – which also ranks fourth overall in the country.
Gabrielle Chartier leads the way for the Trojan offense with four goals and an assist. Her nine points are a team-high. Delaney Wells is second with five points – two goals and an assist.
The Troy office seems to do best in the second half of the game – scoring nine of its 12 goals this season in the final 45 minutes. Not only is the offense scoring more in the second half, but it's also doing so much more efficiently, converting 19.6 percent of shots into goals compared to 6.4 percent in the first half.
