Troy Soccer Opens Sun Belt Play at App State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's soccer team opens its Sun Belt Conference slate on Sunday, Sept. 17 as they head to Boone, N.C., to take on Appalachian State at 12 p.m. CT at the Appalachian Soccer Complex. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats will be available on TroyTrojans.com.
Troy (5-3-0) is off to its best start entering conference play since 2019 when they entered Sun Belt play at 5-2-1.
App State (3-3-1) is coming off a 2-0 loss to Liberty on Thursday night.
The Numbers
Gabrielle Chartier has led the way for the Trojans in the attacking zone this season. She currently leads the team in goals (4), points (9) and shots (16). Chartier, a senior, entered 2023 without a collegiate goal. Nine points is also a career-high for the Canadian forward.
Transfers Delaney Wells and Dolce Villaflor are tied for second on the team in goals with two.
Freshman goalkeeper Rubie Kelley is off to a strong start in her collegiate career, posting a 4-3 record. She's posted four clean sheets, is allowing only 1.02 goals per game, and has recorded 22 saves.
Defenders Hallie Field and Jayme Haynes – both transfers who came to Troy from Northwestern State with new head coach Stuart Gore – lead the team in minutes played. Field has registered 716 minutes, with Haynes right behind her at 714.
Troy is tied for second in the nation in corner kicks this season at 70 and tied for fourth in corner kicks per game at 8.75.
Across the Pitch
Sunday will be the 11th meeting between App State and the Trojans. Troy is 4-4-1 all-time against App State. The last matchup came on Oct. 7, 2021, with Troy winning 1-0 at home.
App State is led by Stephanie Barbosa who has four goals and an assist through seven games. Izzi Wood has three goals and leads the team in shots (31) and shots on goal (13).
Goalkeeper Kerry Eagleston is off to a strong start in net for the Mountaineers, allowing just 0.86 goals per game and saving .786 percent of shots on goal.
