JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Troy women's soccer team came up just short as they dropped a 2-1 battle to North Florida on Sunday afternoon at Hodges Stadium.
Troy (5-3) found the back of the net on a sliding goal from Gabrielle Chartier after Jordan Stack's shot off the crossbar ricocheted to Chartier. The goal made the deficit 2-1 and it was Chartier's fourth of the season. Stack was given the assist.
North Florida's (2-3-2) two goals each came from Jersi Dadah, who opened scoring in the 12th minute and added her second in the 85th minute just before Chartier's goal.
Despite the two goals, Rubie Kelley had a strong day in the net. She faced six shots on goal and made four saves. She came up with a big moment in the 66th minute when she stopped a penalty kick to keep the deficit at one.
The Trojans registered six shots, with three on goal. North Florida did a strong job preventing Troy from getting much pressure in the attacking zone. The Trojans only forced one corner kick.
Thoughts from Coach
Head coach Stuart Gore gave his thoughts on his team's performance following the game:
"We competed better in the second half than the first but put ourselves in a hole and ran out of time to get out of it."
Conference Time
With the non-conference schedule completed, the Trojans now get ready for its conference opener. In 2022, the Trojans did not qualify for the conference tournament and look to do so this year.
That journey starts for Troy in Boone, N.C., on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 12 p.m. CT as they head to Appalachian State to face off against the Mountaineers.
