Women Finish Fourth, Men Eighth at 17th Annual JSU Foothills Invitational

OXFORD, Ala. – The Troy cross country team wrapped up its season opener at the JSU Foothills Invitational Saturday afternoon, ending with a fourth-place finish on the women's side and an eighth for the men.
The women's side collected 154 points to finish just outside the podium – UAB finished third at 91. Four runners ended in the top 40, with newcomer freshman Lucy Turley leading the way in 18th at 14:57.90. Senior Cadi Rowe and sophomore Makenna Calbert weren't far behind at 22nd and 24th, respectively.
Freshman continued to boost the Trojans as Giulianna Rivero wrapped up the top 35 group with a time of 15:38.30 for 34th.
On the men's side, Keith Warner ended the day as the top Troy finisher at 12th. A slow start through the first mile put the Spain Park High School graduate in 23rd until he improved his mile time to 3:02.5 over 3:04.5 on lap three to jump to 14th. He continued his climb into the final two miles, improving two spots to 12th at 15:53.40.
The newcomers proved superior for the men as the top three scorers were freshman in Warner, Samuel Megginson and Caden Blackman in 34th and 45th, respectively, improving Troy to 192 points.
Tyler Baker was the first upperclassman to place, earning 48 points on a time of 16:28.70 for 48th. Caleb Locklin was nearing a top 50 placement in his first meet, jumping from the first lap to the third, 79th to 61st. He continued his rise to 52nd, jumping nine spots in the final lap to end at 16:31.40.
